Speed Converter

One international knot is one international nautical mile (1,852 m) per hour. Speed is a nonnegative magnitude.

Converted value

Kilometers per hour (km/h)96.56064

Kilometers per hour (km/h)

Display rounding does not change the calculation. Scientific notation keeps very small values visible; extra digits do not add measurement accuracy.

How to use the Speed Converter

  1. 01

Enter a numeric value without a comma separator or unit suffix, then choose the source and destination units.

  2. 02

Read the main result and equivalent-unit table. Choose 3, 6, 9, or 12 significant digits for display; calculation constants are not rounded to match the display.

  3. 03

Use the running pace to speed panel for the practical calculation. Restore its example independently from the converter.

  4. 04

Copy the conversion or task results, or download the displayed conversion table as a CSV. Clear removes the converter value.

Examples

Highway speed

60 mph equals 96.56064 km/h. The international mile is exactly 1,609.344 meters.

A steady running pace

5 minutes 30 seconds per kilometer corresponds to about 10.9091 km/h. The same time per mile would be a slower speed.

Speed, velocity, and pace

Speed measures distance per time. Pace measures time per distance, so a smaller pace means a faster speed. This converter treats speed as a magnitude and rejects negative entries; it does not include a direction vector.

International nautical units

The knot option uses an international nautical mile of exactly 1,852 meters per hour. Historical UK nautical-mile and knot definitions are not used. This keeps navigation-unit conversions distinct from statute miles and road speeds.

Precision and accepted input

Use a decimal point or scientific notation such as 1e3. Blank values, unit suffixes, separators, and nonfinite numbers are rejected. Input magnitudes above 1e100 or nonzero magnitudes below 1e-100 are outside the supported range. The table rounds only for presentation, so 12 displayed digits should not be interpreted as 12 digits of measurement accuracy. Binary floating-point calculations can differ from exact decimal arithmetic in the final digits.

What to know

  • No acceleration, relativistic effects, Mach, or historical nautical-mile definitions.
  • Pace assumes a uniform average speed over the selected distance.

Common questions

Can zero speed be converted?

Yes. Zero speed is zero in every supported speed unit. A zero pace is rejected because distance divided by zero time is undefined.

Does this convert Mach numbers?

No. Mach depends on the local speed of sound, which varies with the medium and conditions. A fixed multiplier would be misleading.
