A motor output label
100 mechanical horsepower equals about 74.57 kW. Choosing metric horsepower gives about 73.55 kW, so the definition on the label matters.
Convert watts, horsepower definitions, and Btu/h, or find average power from energy and time. See equivalent values in every supported unit, control display precision, and export a conversion table.
Mechanical hp = 550 ft·lbf/s; metric PS = 75 kgf·m/s; electric hp = 746 W. These definitions differ. Btu/h uses Btu IT.
Kilowatts (kW)
Display rounding does not change the calculation. Scientific notation keeps very small values visible; extra digits do not add measurement accuracy.

Divide an energy amount by elapsed time. This gives average transfer power, without assuming motor efficiency or peak power.
All entered measurements and calculations stay in this browser. No external API or uploaded dataset is used.
Enter a numeric value without a comma separator or unit suffix, then choose the source and destination units.
Read the main result and equivalent-unit table. Choose 3, 6, 9, or 12 significant digits for display; calculation constants are not rounded to match the display.
Use the average power from energy and time panel for the practical calculation. Restore its example independently from the converter.
Copy the conversion or task results, or download the displayed conversion table as a CSV. Clear removes the converter value.
100 mechanical horsepower equals about 74.57 kW. Choosing metric horsepower gives about 73.55 kW, so the definition on the label matters.
Transferring 10 kWh in 30 minutes averages 20 kW. This does not establish the instantaneous peak or account for energy measured at a different point in the system.
Mechanical horsepower uses 550 foot pounds-force per second. Metric horsepower uses 75 kilogram-force meters per second. Electric horsepower is defined here as 746 watts. The menus state each definition instead of assuming that every “hp” label means the same thing.
A unit conversion compares equivalent rates of energy transfer. It does not turn electrical input into mechanical output. If a motor has losses, its input and output powers differ; an efficiency measurement is needed to relate them.
Use a decimal point or scientific notation such as 1e3. Blank values, unit suffixes, separators, and nonfinite numbers are rejected. Input magnitudes above 1e100 or nonzero magnitudes below 1e-100 are outside the supported range. The table rounds only for presentation, so 12 displayed digits should not be interpreted as 12 digits of measurement accuracy. Binary floating-point calculations can differ from exact decimal arithmetic in the final digits.
Their definitions use different force-and-distance quantities. Mechanical hp is about 745.7 W, whereas metric horsepower is exactly 735.49875 W under standard gravity.
Btu is energy, so a duration is required. This converter offers Btu IT per hour, which is a rate and can be converted to watts.
