Keep this page open. Background tabs may delay the sound, but the displayed countdown catches up to its deadline. Device sleep or changing the system clock can affect alerts.

Timer state stays in the current page session and is cleared when the page reloads.

How to use the Online Timer

  1. 01

Choose a 1-, 5-, 10-, or 25-minute preset, or enter hours, minutes, and seconds. Minutes and seconds must be between 0 and 59.

  2. 02

Enable the optional finish sound before starting if you want an audible cue. Your browser may require a click to allow audio.

  3. 03

Start the countdown. Pause to keep the remaining time, resume when ready, or reset to edit the duration. Keep the page open until it finishes.

Examples

A 25-minute focus session

Choose 25 min, start the countdown, and work until the display reaches 00:00:00. Use the 5-minute preset for a break afterward.

A precise presentation slot

Enter 0 hours, 7 minutes, and 30 seconds. If the presentation pauses for a question, pause the timer and resume it when speaking continues.

A longer task

For a 90-minute block, enter 1 hour and 30 minutes. The timer accepts up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds.

Why the countdown stays aligned

The running timer stores a finish deadline and compares it with the current device time. It does not subtract one second on every animation update. When a browser slows a background tab, the display catches up on its next update instead of accumulating missed ticks.

Pausing and starting again

Pause stores the remaining duration. Resume creates a new deadline using that remaining time. Reset stops the countdown and restores the entered duration. After a timer finishes, Start again uses the same duration. Choosing a preset also stops the current countdown.

Using a browser timer reliably

A webpage cannot guarantee a timely alarm while the device is asleep, the tab is closed, or the browser suspends activity. Audio also depends on browser permissions and device volume. Leave the page open and the device awake when timing matters. Changing the system clock while the timer runs can change the countdown.

What to know

  • Browser alarms may be delayed by sleep, background throttling, audio restrictions, or changes to the device clock.

Common questions

Can I run the timer with no sound?

Yes. Sound is off initially. The countdown and finished message work whether or not you enable the short finish tone.

Does it keep counting in another tab?

The deadline continues to pass. Background tabs can receive fewer updates, so the display catches up when the browser runs it again. The sound may be delayed.

Will the timer survive a refresh?

No. Refreshing or leaving this page resets this timer. The page does not store your countdown for a later visit.

Why are the minutes and seconds limited to 59?

Each field represents one part of a clock-style duration. Enter 1 hour and 30 minutes for 90 minutes.

Can I change the duration while it is paused?

Use Reset first. Paused timers retain their remaining duration so Resume can continue the same countdown.
