Examples

Headings and emphasis

Markdown ## Release notes becomes an HTML h2 heading. A strong element becomes **bold text** when converting HTML to Markdown.

Code blocks

Fenced Markdown code blocks become pre/code elements. HTML preformatted code becomes fenced Markdown; CSS syntax highlighting is not preserved.

What survives conversion?

Headings, paragraphs, links, lists, block quotes, emphasis, and code have useful equivalents in both formats. HTML layout, classes, forms, scripts, and CSS do not have reliable Markdown equivalents. Markdown to HTML uses GitHub-flavored parsing, including tables and strikethrough. HTML to Markdown uses basic Turndown rules; tables and custom widgets can lose structure.

Safe source review

The tool displays output in a text area and never inserts entered HTML into the page. That makes the preview inert, but does not sanitize downloaded HTML. Raw HTML in Markdown can pass into the HTML output. Review untrusted input before opening an HTML download in a browser or publishing it. HTML to Markdown drops script, style, iframe, object, embed, noscript, and template elements.

Common questions

Does it preserve my full web page?

No. This converts document markup, not the appearance or behavior of a website. CSS, JavaScript, responsive layout, and interactive components require separate work.

Can I round-trip without any changes?

Usually not exactly. Both formats allow multiple representations, and HTML supports more structure than Markdown. Review links, tables, nested lists, and code after each conversion.

Are my documents uploaded?

Conversion runs in your browser. This tool does not send the entered document to a conversion service.
